Some History on the Small Utility Tanto knife
Dated back to the end of the ninth century Japan during the Heian period, his iconic design is thought to have been made as a utility knife for day to day use and it was also carried by warriors. The early Tanto knife is usually void of decoration and has a single sharpened edge. The point or nose of the knife cut at a flat To curved angle nearly perpendicular to the sharpened edge, these features distinguish the Tanto from other pointed knives. Handles where usually wood. It is believed that on later full tang knives owners would bind there own handles with what was available to their own liking, this personalised the knives. Like all knives this design also varies drastically, half tang construction seems to be the early choice before full tang came into play. Today the Tanto knife design is still an excellent choice for utility or defence.
