Adding a Multi Directional Belt Loop to Knife Pouch

So many people like to wear their knife pouch horizontally. So why not have a multi direction belt loop.

From start to completion.

In this tutorial we will:

Deconstruct my most popular knife pouch.

Make a new multi direction belt loop.

Make a new template.

Add a diagram to the Bible.

Colour the belt loop.

Touch up the colour of the well used pouch.

Add a felt liner (optional)

Sew all the components together.

Polish the entire item.

Lets start.

This popular knife pouch was made to wear in a vertical position. Now it is being modified to fit in either vehicle or horizontal positions
Carefully cutting the saddle stitches.

Use a utility knife and be careful. It is very easy to slip and damage the item.

Open the leather out and pick the stitches from the rough side.

Pick out all the old stitches
This is to fit 1.5 inch / 38mm strap. I am using two belt templates for size and position.
Start sketching a template
Cut the template out
Dust off the inside and cut a peice of felt
Coming together. The excess felt will be trimmed of last.
Cutva peice of leather
Mark the leather by tracing
Cut the leather to size
Stitch groove the leather
Check the fit
Mark the new stitch lines
Pun h the new stitch holes
Update your Bible
Touch up the old leather and colour the new
Spike the new stith holes
Polish the leather new and old
Apply Contact adhesive on the inside. Avoid the stitch holes. You do not need to cover the lot
Apply some contact adhesive to the felt, and spread the contact on the leather.  It will look messy. Let the glue go tacky then press the felt in place. Place weight on the felt to hold in down until dry.
Once dry you have two options.
  1 Trim the felt.
2 Leave the felt as is to be trimmed later.

In the above picture I left the felt to be trimmed for later.

Method 2. Here I have trimmed the felt and started stitching. I found method 2 to work better on the pouch. But method 1 works better when doing strap work.
Stitch starting at the corner of the fold, this will ensure everything lines up properly
A torch or cigarette lighter works well to burn the felt back to meet the leather perfectly.
Colour the entire item again
Rub all the edges to a desired finish
Polish
Back view.
Looks great. Now try it on
